The mix is put into a cone made out of cellophane and is then squeezed out onto the outermost layer of skin.  The henna stains only the top layer of dead skin cells, the stratum corneum, which exfoliates over time and causes the design to fade.  The henna literally sheds along with the dead skin, thereby creating a temporary tattoo. The difference between a henna stain and a permanent tattoo is that the pigment used for permanent tattoos is placed underneath the stratum corneum into living tissue where the ink will remain forever.  For more information on the science of skin click here. Having henna applied to the skin does not hurt, in fact it has a relaxing, calming and cooling effect on the body.  Henna feels good!

Essential oils are a natural and effective way to help make henna stains darker.  Lavender oil is the safest oil for use on skin and the one that Henna Planet uses.  Please talk to Tarquin if you are sensitive to essential oils.  Henna Planet does henna on people 6 years of age and older.  Please click here for why.
